OpenAI doubles ChatGPT Pro and Business Premium usage limits effective immediately

OpenAI has raised usage limits for ChatGPT Pro and Business Premium users, with the change taking effect immediately from early Oct. 30 Beijing time. The update was announced by Thibault Sottiaux, OpenAI’s head of core product and platform, and was framed as part of the company’s ongoing "28 days of shipping" effort. The move follows OpenAI’s recent decision to grant free API credits to ChatGPT Pro and Business users. The change also resolves a split that had emerged among Pro 200 subscribers. Users who subscribed after Sept. 29 had seen their usage cut in half, while existing users were given a grace period through Oct. 30. Under the new policy, higher-limit Pro 200 users keep their existing allowance, while lower-limit users now get double usage, bringing both groups to the same level. According to the report, Pro 200 usage has effectively returned to its earlier level. ChatGPT Work and Codex now include usage equal to 20 times that of Plus, while GPT-6 Pro in chat mode is capped at 200 messages per week with no five-hour usage limit. OpenAI did not extend Ultrafast access to Pro 200; that feature remains exclusive to Pro 500. Plus-tier limits are unchanged.

OpenAI adds up to $500 in monthly API credits for eligible ChatGPT Pro and Business users

OpenAI said on Oct. 28 that eligible ChatGPT Pro and Business subscribers can now claim up to $500 in API credits per month at no extra cost, folding part of developers’ API spending into existing subscription benefits. For Pro users, the credit matches the subscription tier, with $100, $200, and $500 plans receiving the same amount in monthly API balance. Business credits are pooled at the workspace level based on paid seats, though monthly benefits are capped at $500, while annual Business subscribers can receive up to $6,000 per year in a lump sum. The offer does not apply to ChatGPT Plus, free, Enterprise, Edu, trial, or gifted subscriptions, and users must have been subscribed for at least seven days. Credits must be claimed manually from the Billing page, tied to an API organization under the same email, and the user must hold Owner permissions on that organization. The credits can be used across most core OpenAI developer services, but not for running Codex through an API key. They expire at the end of the monthly or annual billing cycle and do not roll over.

OpenAI launches AI assistant dots with calendar and email access

OpenAI has introduced dots, an AI personal assistant unveiled at its developer event in late September. The product repackages capabilities from Codex, the company’s coding tool, into a more intuitive assistant designed to work proactively rather than wait for constant prompts. dots is now available to ChatGPT Pro subscribers and higher tiers, with pricing starting at $100 per month. The assistant can connect to a user’s calendar, email and computer tools in an effort to help complete work tasks. Alexander Embiricos, head of OpenAI’s enterprise product team, said the idea behind dots is to create a persistent entity that does not require frequent prompting. He cited feedback from an engineer who said that during a service outage, their dots had already noticed the issue, completed an analysis and surfaced information about a possible fix. At its current stage, dots can flag calendar conflicts and deadlines. Embiricos said its sense of timing still needs improvement. The report was cited by Techub, referencing TechCrunch.

OpenAI posts 722 AI mathematics research manuscripts on GitHub

OpenAI has published a large batch of AI mathematics research manuscripts on GitHub, with the total reaching 722 papers, according to a Techub News brief citing Tech in Asia. The materials cover hundreds of open problems in mathematics-related research. OpenAI said the results were produced with computing resources that, on average, were equivalent to roughly three hours of thinking time on ChatGPT Pro. The release points to a sizable disclosure of internal research outputs tied to AI-assisted mathematical work, though the brief did not provide further details on the individual manuscripts or the specific problems covered.

SemiAnalysis finds Claude subscription plans offer the richest API-equivalent value among major AI coding tiers

SemiAnalysis tested AI subscription plans from OpenAI, Anthropic, Meta, SpaceXAI, MiniMax, Moonshot AI, Zhipu, Cursor, and Cognition, measuring how input, cache writes, cache reads, and output consume plan quotas. It then applied its own September agent usage mix, where roughly 96.6% of activity came from cache reads, and converted the resulting token usage into an "API-equivalent value" based on each provider’s API pricing. The biggest subsidy in the comparison came from Anthropic’s Claude plans. On the $200-per-month Max 20x tier, Sonnet 5.5 reached about $12,529 in API-equivalent usage, or 62.6x the subscription price, while Opus 5.5 came in at about $11,726, or 58.6x. Claude Fable 5.1 was much lower at about $2,485, or 12.4x, showing how quota burn rates differ by model and token type. SemiAnalysis also said domestic coding plans heavily subsidize power users, though not to Claude’s level. It measured MiniMax Token Ultra at about 23.4x, Zhipu GLM Coding Max at 11.6x, and Kimi Code Ultra at 6.7x. The report added that OpenAI has recently tightened subsidies by halving token quotas for newly purchased Pro 200 plans, while older plans keep previous limits until Oct. 29. It also noted that providers can change backend quota accounting without changing headline subscription prices.

SemiAnalysis says Claude subscriptions deliver more than 5x the value of ChatGPT Pro

SemiAnalysis, a semiconductor research firm, tested subscription plans from Anthropic, OpenAI, xAI, Cursor and other major AI providers by converting the usable token volume in each plan into an equivalent API cost. Its findings suggest that, for some flagship models and plans, Anthropic’s Claude subscription delivers more than five times the practical usage value of OpenAI’s ChatGPT offering. The firm did not focus on sticker price alone. It measured how much text users could input, how much output they could generate, and how much compute capacity was available through items such as cache read and cache write, then priced that usage against official API rates. SemiAnalysis also found that after OpenAI revised ChatGPT Pro allowances, the new $200 monthly tier offers roughly half the usable token volume of the older plan across several models. OpenAI’s newer $500 tier adds more allowance and access to GPT-6 Astra’s Ultrafast mode, but the report says the increase in total model usage does not scale in line with the higher price, meaning much of the extra spend goes toward speed rather than raw token volume.

OpenAI to reopen $200 Pro plan as revised usage math cuts API-equivalent allowance

OpenAI said it will reopen its $200-per-month Pro subscription to new users tomorrow, while changing how usage is calculated under the plan. Tibo, a member of the OpenAI team, said that if the new Pro allowance is translated directly through API pricing, the usable amount comes out to roughly half of the old version. He also said that does not necessarily mean subscribers will get half as much work done, arguing that model efficiency and capability have improved enough that users could still complete more work than they could a month ago. The company does not plan to bring back the old five-hour cap. Instead, Pro users will continue to allocate usage across the week, with OpenAI adjusting the overall weekly usage calculation rather than imposing tighter time-window limits. Tibo said OpenAI wants the plan’s value to reflect real work completed instead of a headline API dollar amount. He also pointed to lower model costs, including recently introduced GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna API pricing that was cut 50% versus GPT-5.6 series promotional pricing. OpenAI said those lower prices stem from caching and inference efficiency gains, not a short-term promotion. Tibo added that OpenAI will announce more subscription-only features tomorrow, including some that will not consume usage.

OpenAI to retire Codex Spark next week after seven months

OpenAI will retire GPT-5.3-Codex-Spark next week, according to Tibo Sottiaux, the company’s head of core products. He said usage of the model had been falling and that OpenAI now has clearly better models available. Spark launched in February as a smaller, faster version of GPT-5.3-Codex. It was also described as OpenAI’s first model built specifically for real-time coding. The model ran on Cerebras chips, delivered generation speeds of more than 1,000 tokens per second, and was available only to ChatGPT Pro users. The move will end a product that had been on the market for about seven months.
